OK so here is the deal. It's 9:34 p.m. PST, I'm bored, and for some strange reason I just got the urge to post with this small hope that I can gain some momentum in trying to make an honest attempt at doing this again............blah blah blah blah
A quick update for those who care and those who don't: I graduated college, made the pilgrimage to Portland, got an internship @ Spectre, discovered my love for stoner rocker, and can't find paying work for the life of me. It appears that going to college doesn't guarantee you dick (did it ever?) and graduating with degrees in political science and business doesn't exactly put you on a specific career path either. Whatever. Portland's got great record stores and cool people. I'll deal.
On to something way more important. Christian Fennesz, the art of awesome mix tapes, and Melvins.
I once thought that Christian Fennesz's Endless Summer was possibly one of the best noise/ambient/IDM records of all time. In the end it still might very well be, but for those who haven't dug a little deeper into his catalogue there is a hidden gem called Hotel Paral.lel and it embodies all that people have come to love about his work but deviates from his previous work in that one can actually notice actual rhythms being played with out the use of headphones for once.......amazing! Both records are fantastic in their own right but the one problem with Endless Summer and it's probably the records main appeal, is it's pretentiousness. Either way peeps should check him out.
Mixtapes are awesome. All kinds. They're great for all types of listening. Hip-hop, electro, dance, disco, soul, R&B, whatever. I'm in the process of making one myself. I'll tell you right now it's probably going to suck but I've wanted to do one forever so I am.
People who make great mixtapes(IMHO): Paul Nice, Matthew Dear, Mick Boogie, DJ Drama, J-Rocc, PBW, DJ Greenlantern, and whoever did the mixes for the Clipse's We Got It For Cheep.
I would love to dedicate the next few hours telling you why (the) Melvins are such a great band and why for the longest time I had such a negative view of them as I think most people do but I don't really want to. Long and short of it: THEY ROCK SO HEAVY AND HARD...nuff said. Their latest two albums feature two drummers so they can bring twice the pain and they also appear to have a stable bass player for once in their career. Pretty awesome stuff. Check out (a) Senile Animal, Hostile Ambient Takeover, Bullhead, Stoner Witch, and Lysol.
In other news for anyone who gives a shit about basketball, Greg Oden got injured again. That brings his career NBA playing time to a grand total to a whopping 3 minutes. Shit is fucked.
